Sofia Coppola’s film ‘The Bling Ring’, about stealing clothes, reminds me of a story, many years ago.
A collection of a major Italian fashion house was stolen from the showroom. There were rumours that it was an insurance scam - as the collection was not selling.
The following season, after another dubious collection, I wrote, “You couldn’t pay anyone to steal this lot.”
The season after that, I was banned.

This week we celebrate Yves Saint Laurent. August 1 1936 - June 1 2008.
His last show in 2002 proved that he was the first.
In everything.
Here at the July 1997 Haute Couture show at the Intercontinental Hotel in Paris, Carla Bruni (to be first lady of France 2008 - 2012) posed under the arch of flowers.
A note for entitled fashionistas. Yves Saint Laurent always seated his mother in the first raised row. (La premier rang surélevé - good phrase to remember)

Anna Wintour’s Vague Moment, at Haute Couture in Paris, last January.
I won’t say which show.
For Stephen Todd’s Lumière.
